check out this band called eskimo.  it's the only band in la/long beach area doing their own thing in a scene sometimes plagued with too many horrendous "punk" bands and dance rock bands thinking they are doing something new. 
they sound similiar to frodus, failure, catherine wheel, and jawbox. also, they recorded with alex newport (atdi, melvins, mars volta, erase eratta)
