Why Is Anything Forbidden? is an indie/indie-electronic
Tribute to the Southern Gangsta Rap label, No Limit. This odd juxtaposition has
yielded some of the simultaneously most absurd and disturbing, yet most dancy
and upbeat tracks from many of today's popular indie and sub-indie bands. Here is a description of a few of the album's highlights: David Figurine "Lil' Hormoneo" - This perverted track turns the clock forward just enough to hear what Lil' Romeo will sound like after he goes through puberty. Figurine at a rare, shameless moment, yet just as beautiful as their recent March records release, Slowcoach "ODB, Fuck Master P" - This Silvergirl Records band masterfully bends their Superchunk/emo sound around fast paced Southern Bounce beats, in order to point out that Old Dirty Bastard is a better rapper than Master P. Well, maybe in their book... Books On Tape "Truckin" - This up-and-coming electronic star provides a humorous political commentary on the absurdity behind a bunch of "white" indie bands doing a tribute to anything hip hop at all. Radio Vago "Radio P" - With the help of Books On Tape, the leaders of LA's current electro-punk scene mutate the No Limit sound into militant feminism. |
